Ascension News and Comments

Worship with us in the season of Pentecost
Sunday, October 30, 2016 at 10:00 a.m.
“God loves us all, both big and small,” a child’s verse declares. The sins of the world are covered. We are able to stand tall before God our righteous judge because in the person of Jesus “salvation has come to this house”—to our house today. In Christ Jesus God seeks us out to save us.
Isaiah 1:10-18
Psalm 32:1-7
2 Thessalonians 1:1-4, 11-12
Luke 19:1-10

Thanks to the generosity of a few donors, we have installed a new video production system which allows us to take video of our worship services. Videos of sermons are available to view on our YouTube channel.

All Saints Sunday is November 6
On the first Sunday of November each year, the people of Jesus celebrate All Saints Sunday. This holy day is a time to remember our ancestors in faith, to give God thanks for their lives, and to pray for our reunion at the heavenly feast of victory.
You are invited to join us on that day, November 6, at 9:00 AM, for a brief service of Thanksgiving for the Faithful Departed at the Ascension Columbarium in our beautiful garden. This invitation is meant for anyone who has a loved one whose remains rest in the columbarium.
Though the service will last no longer than fifteen minutes, we will be outdoors rain-or-shine, so please dress comfortably. Seating will be limited. Please feel free to bring an offering of flowers in memory of your loved one. There is no need to RSVP.
If you would like to have a photo of a dearly departed loved one included in this year’s All Saints Slideshow, please submit your photo to the congregation office by Reformation Sunday, 10/30. If you have submitted a photo in past years, it is already included in this year’s slideshow.

Organ Renovation Project

Phase I of the organ restoration is progressing on schedule. This phase addresses the issues of the organ console and restoration of the windchests, reservoirs and pipework.  The previous interior pneumatic mechanisms of the console have been replaced with solid state components, bringing the organ console to present day acceptable standards. Our existing keyboards of valuable English Ivory have been retained in the new solid state console. Phase I will also add 32’ digital extensions to the pedal division, providing a deep, rich sound; MIDI in and out; record and playback capability; and 99 levels of combination action memory. Pipes and windchests in all divisions have been cleaned and refurbished. While the pipes were out of the chambers for cleaning, new lighting was installed in both pipe chamber and the damaged drywall from previous water leaks was repaired. Approximately 95% of the restoration is complete. Once the gallery organ is completed work will begin on installation of the antiphonal organ in the east balcony.
