Worship with us in the season of Easter
May 20, 2012
The gospel for Easter's seventh Sunday is always taken from the long prayer Jesus prays for his followers in John's gospel on the night before his death, and always includes Jesus' desire that his followers will be one as he and the Father are one. This oneness is not mere doctrinal agreement or institutional unity, but mutual abiding, interpenetrating life, mutual love and joy. This oneness is the work of the Spirit whom we have received but also await. Come, Holy Spirit!

WELCA Bible Study, Tuesday, May 15th at 9:30 AM
All women are cordially invited to the WELCA (Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America) Bible study for 2011-2012 “To Follow and to Serve:  The Gospel of Mark”.  This study challenges us with an invitation to discipleship in the 21st century; emphasizing what it means to follow Jesus Christ today.  In it we are called to a living faith, a deeper and more courageous understanding of what it means to follow Jesus whom we first meet in Mark’s Gospel at his baptism in the River Jordan.
We meet the third Tuesday of the month through May at 9:30 AM.  Meeting duration is usually about 1˝ to 2 hours, including the Bible study, time for discussion, fellowship and refreshments.
May theme verse:  Mark 16:6 – “Do not be alarmed; you are looking for Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified.  He has been raised, he is not here.”
This month’s study:  Our journey through Mark’s Gospel concludes with this session.  It includes the account of the women at the empty tomb and the poignant, puzzling moment of revelation about the resurrection.  It ends where we began; back with the question of what it means to be a follower of Jesus Christ in the 21st century.

Mission Investment Fund of the ELCA
Mission congregations, established congregations, and ELCA-related ministries can finance capital building projects with competitively priced loans and take advantage of comprehensive building-consulting services through the Mission Investment Fund of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. Individual members, congregations and ministries of the ELCA can purchase investments through the fund, earning interest at competitive rates.  With these investments, the Mission Investment Fund makes loans to help congregations purchase land, expand their current facilities or begin new building projects that directly benefit their members and surrounding communities. Currently, the Mission Investment Fund has nearly 800 active loans totaling over $450 million to ELCA ministries throughout the United States, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands. Though the loans are for a wide range of uses, they all have one thing in common: each is helping to grow the ELCA and advance its mission.  For more information please visit the mission investment fund.
